Namilia SS17
Namilia may be a newcomer to the New York Fashion Week scene, but the provocative label did not hold back at their recent runway show. Designers, Nan Li and Emilia Pfohl made sure to stay true to their provocative roots. In fact, Li and Pfohl explained that their designs were meant to portray the message that they were fashion activists who wanted to fight against female objectification and embrace sexuality.
The result of this message was their collection entitled, "You're Just A Toy." The line pushed the fashion limits by creating a sort of fetish-inspired wear.
Most of the designs were made of latex, bondage straps and other sexually explicit materials. However, many of the designs took a punk rock approach with rips and tears.
Other pieces featured pop culture references images of celebrities like like Zayn Malik, Justin Bieber, and anti-Trump messages.
Namilia is quickly making a name for themselves and plan on having many runway shows for several seasons to come. In fact, a handful of fashion-conscious celebrities are already becoming huge supporters of Li and Pfohl's designs.
For example, Kelly Osbourne was spotted sitting in the front row of Namilia’s first runway show at NYFW. It will be interesting to see how the duo's designs will evolve with the coming seasons.
