Landlord SS18
Since Landlord made its inaugural debut at New York Fashion Week in 2015, designer and creative director Ryohei Kawanishi has since made quite an impression on the men’s street style scene, acquiring an A-list following studded with musicians and celebrities.
Landlord’s SS18 collection pays homage to the diasporic Afro-Caribbean communities of the East London neighborhood of Dalston Junction, where the designer lived before putting down roots in Harlem.
Jamaican counter-culture and reggae influences are the soul of the collection and marked with a Rastafarian color palette evident in trim details, belts and color-blocked nylon tracksuits, while clever tributes to Bob Marley were apparent throughout the collection.
The utilitarian influences that have remained since the brand’s conception are also evident in the current collection with neon camouflage meshed with Haymarket check prints and crisp, oversized denim with exaggerated cuffs.
Head-to-toe block color, a notable trend prevalent throughout fashion week made its way down the Landlord runway in form of leisure suits shaded in brown, black and orange.
Gold hardware and chunky chains reiterated the sense of 2000’s nostalgia that echoed throughout the presentation and although some of the models strutted the runway barefoot, in true island fashion, other looks were completed with ankle-baring footwear by Blackmeans, Mauri and Novesta.
