New York's First Annual Men's Fashion Week | #NYFWM

Zombie Surfers? Sheer shirts? Parkour models? If you were lucky enough to be in West Soho July thirteenth through the sixteenth you would’ve seen all that and so much more. Finally the United States is catching up with her European neighbors and hosting the first annual men’s fashion week.

The latest and greatest in designer names made their presence known at New York Fashion Week: Men’s as well as the time tested titans of the clothing world. Many said that this men’s fashion week was much calmer than its feminine counterpart, but when Rag & Bone showcased their breathable ensembles with models doing parkour moves, the atmosphere was anything but boring!

Duckie Brown raised tons of eyebrows with his sheer tees. Will this breezy style be men’s answer to swimsuit cover-ups?

Rochambeau Runway

Rochambeau’s show was a major hit as Prayers rocked the house with their Cholo Goth style.

Thaddeus O'Neil Runway

There was certainly a lot of creativity involved with Thaddeus O'Neil's zombie surfers. His amazing mix of the wildly unexpected guarantees that people will be talking about his designs for a long time.

Most of the brands opted to go the androgynous route. However, Todd Snyder did the complete opposite and garnered attention by being one of the most traditional of all the represented designers. With an unadorned blue sweater and shorts, Todd Snyder sent a subtle reminder that beauty can be found in simplicity, as well as the ornate.

This first annual men’s fashion week also sparked a lot of questions. Why now? Why 2015? According to Business Insider, sales for men’s clothing have skyrocketed over the past few years and are expected to climb another 14.2% in the next five years.

Millennials are the main culprits when it comes to increased interest in men’s fashion. A more style savvy consumer requires equally savvy designers.

Over 40 brands were represented in New York’s first annual men's fashion week. It was such a huge success, which leaves no reason for doubt. Next year there will be even more to look forward to.
