Nolcha Shows: Spring/Summer 2023
2022 marked the Nolcha Shows' fourteenth appearance at New York Fashion Week. The Nolcha Shows are known for introducing innovative new designers to a global audience and pushing the boundaries of fashion week itself.
This year was no different as the Nola Shows wove tech, sustainability, and fashion into a two day event unlike anything New York Fashion Week has seen before. Building on previous success blending the virtual world and the world of fashion, this year Nolcha Shows combined a Web3 conference and full NFT gallery with their more traditional catwalk offerings.
Nolcha Shows brought a number of fresh, exciting designers to New York Fashion Week in 2022, with an emphasis on designers who straddle the old world and the new.
Custom clothier The Tailory combines a genderless aesthetic and old fashioned artistry into expertly designed streetwear that manages to look forward and backward simultaneously.
Nazranaa brings traditional Indian bridal wear into the twenty-first century with bold colors, extravagant details, and modern silhouettes that still manage to stay true to the brand's South Asian roots.
Mauricio Alpizar combines timeless resort wear staples with bold animal prints for a look that is at once classic and instantly modern. Alpizar also embraces the low waste, slow fashion of our ancestors with a collection made from 100% sustainable Acacia tree fabric.
In addition to a number of exciting apparel designers, Nolcha Shows also brought jaw dropping accessories to NYFW. Among their accessory collections were pieces from Zashadu, a brand which crafts luxurious leather goods set with precious stones, all created by artisans in Africa based on age old traditions.
The Nolcha Shows set out to prove that sustainability and fashion can (and should!) go hand in hand, and their selection of 2022 NYFW designers fully embody that ethos. Click here to see a full list of the inspiring designers who appeared in Nolcha Shows at NYFW.
The Nolcha Shows fully embraced the digital world for NYFW 2022 over the course of their two days of shows. On September 13, the Nolcha Shows featured looks by ChainGuardians, a brand focused on phygital (that's physical AND digital) designs that can be worn by fashionistas in both our physical reality and in the Metaverse. On September 14, the Nolcha Shows hosted a series of panelists discussing the impact of fashion on the virtual world, and the impact of the virtual world on fashion.
From sustainability to forward thinking, the Nolcha Shows continued to surprise and impress, and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We can't wait to see what's in store for 2023.
