5 Winter Fashion Essentials for Men
If you’re like me, you might have a love-hate relationship with winter. You may enjoy the first few snows of the season, but cringe at the thought of shoveling your driveway. Regardless, all well-clad men can agree on this: Winter should be an occasion for sharp dressing!
Snow Boots and Jeans Don't Mix.
First off, the savvy dressed man takes care of his feet. Shoes say a lot about the man, as well as keeping your feet dry and protected. With that in mind, consider sporting a chukka boot. The classic look of cognac leather or suede combines functionality with style that will compliment nearly any outfit. One of my personal favorites are the Desert Boots from Clarks.
Cool Coats for Cool Cats.
Since winter weather has the potential to be unpleasant, you’ll need a solid coat or two. A quilted coat is excellent for casual wear that doesn't break the bank, but for heavy protection and timeless style, try opting for a pea coat.
Yes, It’s Ok to Wear a Scarf.
Guys, don't be afraid of rocking a scarf this winter. Sticking with more masculine colors like black, brown, navy and gray is always a safe bet. However, keep a bold, colorful scarf in your wardrobe when you're drowning in a dark color palette.
Flannels: An American Classic, With a Twist.
Outerwear aside, every man needs a solid shirt. Try picking yourself out a trendy flannel. What dude doesn't need a shirt that goes from "casual dress" to "working man" functional just by rolling up the sleeves?
Layer a flannel shirt with a jacket to get just the right look, or button it down for the office without being too dressed up for an evening out with friends. Flannel travels well, too, which is a plus in anyone’s book.
Sweatpants Don't Have to Be Frumpy.
For the creative dresser who values comfort over traditional style, a fine quality pair of sweatpants can be dressed up, when combined with the right accessories. Pair them with a cardigan, flannel button-down, or denim shirt, for a comfortable winter look. Lace on a pair of high-top sneakers or swaggy boots, and you’re ready to go!
